Read Genesis 3:9-15, 20-23
(if you’re a parent with young kids, this might be a good Bible story to read from a children’s Bible)

The First Sin and Its Punishment

But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” He said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.” He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent tricked me, and I ate.” The Lord God said to the serpent,

“Because you have done this,
cursed are you among all animals
and among all wild creatures;
upon your belly you shall go,
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will strike your head,
and you will strike his heel.”
...
The man named his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living. And the Lord God made garments of skins for the man and for his wife, and clothed them.

Then the Lord God said, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.

Say Together:

“He will strike your head.”

Talk About:

Sin can feel very powerful in our lives. But God never lets us go, and He has always had a plan to rescue us from that sin. What are some ways God has already helped you turn from sin and live more like Jesus?

Pray:

All-powerful Father, we await the helping power of Christ your Son. Let us not be discouraged by our weakness as we prepare for his coming. Keep us steadfast in your love.
Amen.
