Each month, we’ve featured a profile on one of the Saint Benedict Parish staff members so parishioners can get to know them a little better and get a better sense of what they do at the parish. This month, we’re featuring our two summer students, Antonia Mugisa and Liam Quigley.

What’s your job title?

ANTONIA: I am the Social Media Assistant.

LIAM: I am the Video Content Creator.

Where are you going to school in September? What’s your program?

ANTONIA: I’ll be attending Dalhousie University in the Fall to continue my studies for my 3rd year in Computer Science.

LIAM: I will be going into my second year of Business Administration where I will be working on a major in marketing.

What was it like to be in university during COVID?

ANTONIA: Computer Science is already a field that is generally suited
for working on a laptop, so doing my studies online was not difficult, but it was very lonely. Thank goodness I had a great support system around me to get me through the difficult moments of studying online, but I am very relieved to be back in-person in the Fall, surrounded by my classmates.

LIAM: School has been very interesting during COVID. If anything, learning from home is a real-time saver, since I don’t have to travel between home and campus. There are fewer distractions and it’s a calmer place to study. However, I do miss having the opportunity to be on campus, meeting and interacting with my classmates.

What do you want to do for a career when you’re done with school?

ANTONIA: After I graduate, I want to complete my Master’s in Computer Science and work in the Artificial Intelligence field as a full stack developer. I believe there is a lot of potential in AI to ethically help our society, and it is a cool field to work in.

LIAM: When I am done with school, I want to work in the film industry, working behind the scenes as a director, and taking care of the business side.

What do you like best about working at Saint Benedict Parish so far?

ANTONIA: The people. Everyone is unique in their own way and brings their talents and knowledge together to work as a team. I have felt welcomed every step of the way by everyone, and I am really grateful for this opportunity.

LIAM: What I like best about working at Saint Benedict Parish is the people, too. A lot of the people at this church have a strong sense of community and value the people around them. It’s truly inspiring to see so many care for each other.

What do you like to do outside of work?

ANTONIA: You can find me watching anime, playing the piano, or designing and creating web projects!

LIAM: I enjoy illustrating, writing, and filmmaking. Filmmaking has always been my main passion and getting to work at the parish as Video Content Creator is a blessing.

Any fun summer plans?

ANTONIA: My summer plans are to fully explore Nova Scotia and see what this beautiful province has in store for me and my friends.

LIAM: My summer plans are to enjoy the sun, get out as much as I possibly can, and try new things. Every day can be an adventure, as long as you allow it to be!
