From time to time, we feature a profile of one of the Saint Benedict Parish staff members so parishioners can get to know them a little better and get a better sense of what they do at the parish. This month, we’re featuring our Office Coordinator, Bev McPhee.

What’s your job title?
BEV: I am the Office Coordinator.

What staff team are you on?
I am on the Worship & Serve Team. When did you start working at Saint Benedict Parish? Prior to serving in the parish office, I had been involved with our outreach ministries, collection security, and funeral receptions
(before COVID). I began volunteering Tuesday afternoons at the office reception desk in late 2021. When the parish advertised the office coordinator position, I was curious, because I truly enjoy this type of work. However, I did not believe the Lord would call me, at this stage of my life, to take this on. I told him it made more sense to find someone younger with lots of energy, so I’m filling in until that person shows up!

What does your work here entail?
Ultimately, everything I do is intended to support the mission & Game Plan of Saint Benedict Parish. Initially my focus has been to learn as much as I can, and, together with other office volunteers, work toward clearing the backlog of tasks created during COVID shutdowns. We hope to keep communication flowing smoothly and continue to improve the various processes that help our parish community stay connected and lively! I am privileged to have the opportunity to meet and serve those who come by the office. It is lovely to put names to the faces I see at Mass, and I love it when people stop by and introduce themselves!

What did you do before you worked at Saint Benedict Parish?
That covers a lot of years! The short version is that I became a widow in 2014 after 32 years of marriage. We were blessed with three children, and eventually one granddaughter. My children and their families are my
joy! I have worn many hats throughout these years. I thought I was now retired, but the fun continues. I could not have imagined where the Lord would lead my life, but I really appreciate his humour as he unfolds the map.

What do you like to do outside of work?
When time permits, I love to read and investigate; I am an amateur genealogist trying to solve a family mystery. I love humour, sunshine, the ocean, wildlife, and watching aircraft in flight. I also have a few bucket list adventures I want to tackle!

What was a key moment in your faith life that you can share with us?
I don’t think there is one key moment, but rather a pattern of experiences that are uniquely indicative of his presence with me throughout the years. I have found that when the Lord wants to get through to me, he leaves me with no doubt. My earliest memory of this is from when I was a teenager, and they continue today. Those encounters never fade; they are as vivid and profound and precious today as when they first happened. I have concluded that no matter what this life brings, everything will be okay. He is constant and faithful and awesome!
