What is the Stations of the Cross?

The Stations of the Cross is a series of 14 images, depicting Jesus Christ’s journey on the day of his crucifixion. The Stations start with Jesus
being condemned to death and progress to the final station, where Jesus is laid in the tomb. These 14 stations offer an opportunity to show devotion to God, particularly during the time of Lent.

What can you get out of praying with the Stations?

The 14 stations serve as a spiritual pilgrimage through Jesus’ suffering and death before Easter. Spending time praying, reflecting, and meditating on each station helps Christians to intentionally spend time with Jesus. Having the opportunity to journey along with Jesus, this is an incredible way to prepare ourselves for Easter.

What can you expect when praying The Stations of the Cross?

Parishioners will be led through the series of the 14 stations, stopping at each one for a time of reflection and prayer. The reflections differ each time, as they are associated with each specific station. Booklets with prayers, responses and music are provided for attendees. The progression is run by a designated leader with parishioners following along.

How can I take part in the Stations of the Cross?

Saint Benedict Parish has the Stations of the Cross each Friday starting at 6:30pm during the season of Lent. The stations are located on the right side (when facing the altar) of the church. If you have never prayed with the Stations of the Cross, or you are simply interested in trying out a new form of prayer for Lent, we invite you to attend!
